The deposit bonus is a very common bonus or promotion in online casinos. The bonus is awarded to players to be used with their next deposit, or first in some cases. Usually the more generous deposit bonuses are received when a player is a new customer, to then decline to smaller % later on.
The bonus usually have two values: The match% and the maximum amount. These are usually expressed as “100% deposit bonus up to 100€”, as example. Means the casino will match your deposit bonus to a 100% of your deposit, up to a maximum of 100€. Some casinos also offer 150, or even 200% on the first deposits, while bonuses after the first one usually are down to 25-50%.
How it works
When you claim a deposit bonus with your deposit the casino will match the funds you are depositing up to the % expressed with the bonus. You will be able to play with your new balance right away.
Unless otherwise expressed you will not be able to withdraw your bonus funds until you have matched the wagering requirements. These are subject to the bonus terms and conditions on your specific online casino, but will normally vary around a factor of x25-35.
All deposit bonuses come with wagering requirements on the free money you receive, but once you complete the requirements you can withdraw this free cash and its winnings any way you want. You can always withdraw your cash balance, but if you choose to do so before your bonus is converted to cash – the outstanding bonus amounts are always forfeited.
First deposit bonus
As the name suggests, this is the deposit bonus you get on your first deposit. These are usually awarded when you first become a customer at a casino online. Most commonly they are matching the player deposit at 100% or more.
No deposit bonus
Some casinos also give players a “no deposit bonus”. These are promotions meant to attract new players, but is also a great way for unexperienced gamblers to try a casino and test new games.
These come in two types – small amounts of cash, or free spins awarded without any requirements to make a deposit.
Deposit bonus example
When you deposit the €50, the casino will then add an additional €100 to your balance, meaning you can start playing with €150 in your account to play with.
The first money you are using is your deposit (€50 of the €150 balance), if you are unlucky and your balance goes below €100 – your deposit is spent and you will continue to play with your bonus money. With a wagering requirement at x35 the bonus amount this means 35*€100 = €3500 needs to be turned over before you can withdraw your winnings. If you’re lucky and start winning right away, you can make the withdrawals at any time.
